The Eveready Calcutta Derby Stakes Gr.1

The first derby of the winter season in our country sees 9 horses taking part in this race 

There are 9 horses in the field,five of them Acrider,Romantic Flow (Both carrying the dominating silks of Deepak Khaitan) Parushram (The lone Hyderabd challenger) TRIUMPHUS (The proverbial joker in the pack) and Confidence (Who ran a good race last time but has to improve notches to win here) 

Thus the winner in my opinion should come from this quartert of FLY LIKE THE WIND (Winner of the 1000 guineas and the best progeny of the freshmen sire WINLEGEND) who happens to be the best local hope,this horse is now partnered by P.S.Chouhan for the first time,it has to show either enormous improvement or change in tactics vis-a-vis its last run to come trumps here. The local challenger unlike others may have the tactical advantage in this race with two horses running in the same colors out of which one will be setting what would be an optimum pace for her more than anybody else..... 

Then we have the three outstation challengers in TorchBearer,Quasar and Tiger Tops 

Torch Bearer is coming out from a trainer who has succesfully raided classics at every major centre in India,bred Burden Of Proof*Running Flame,this horses dam was a stellar performer in India being the winner of the Indian Invitation Cup in the late 90's...... Two horses out of Runnimh Flame have thrown Graded/Classic winners,with an affinity for longer races. Thus on those likes there is scope for improvement and also a master tactician this trainer's horse will be the best horse to upset the most fancied duo in this race.... 

Then there is the famous duo of (Pesi and Mallesh) who have been locking horns quite too often in classics so far. Pesi however had the better of Mallesh at Calcutta during the running of the Calcutta Monsoon Derby 

Speaking of which Tiger Tops becomes the strongest contender of this race,she definitely stays,her run in the Calcutta OAKS displayed her class and with Zervan in the saddle again is the main contender in this race 

But Quasar who has been a very good horse in his own right,the winner of the Nanoli Stud Pune Derby is the main challenger,having won his last four races,all of which are graded races in their own right this horse just cannot be overlooked. 

If I go back to the Bangalore Racing Season and take a line through Maisha and compare it with the running of the Pune Derby 

On pure arithmetic logic,Quasar seems like having an advantage,however Tiger Tops has improved leaps after that run against Maisha at Bangalore Fillies championship 

Thus barring a crude upset,there is very much a duel on the cards,It all boils down to the ability of Quasar to genieunely stay over today's trip. The equation is pretty simple for me,if he stays out the distance he will definitely triumph today and its the million dollar question.... 

I'm keeping my fingers crossed,may the best horse win :)

Pune Races 08/09/2013 Analysis and Selections

Hello friends,                       A card of 8 races have been framed for Sunday,with  The Southern Command Trophy  as the feature event of the day.  Race no 1:A race for horses in class IV (5yo+) over 1400 mts  Matter of heart,Samay Balwan and Star Builder  are the three last outing winners out of the eleven runners in this set,with the former being the winner in the same class and the other two runners are up on promotion. Star builder's  win was pretty easy last time out in the hands of  Dashrath Singh  now on promotion win looks difficult, Samay Balwan  just managed to hold on in the lower class,the same can be said of this horse too  Thus I guess the winner should probably come from this set of horses  Scaramouche,Zaracha,Guns N roses,Brave fighter   Brave fighter  ran third behind  Cypress point  during its only run this season,gets  Trevor Patel  in the saddle,placed well on scales here may spring a surprise  Zaracha  ran second to  Queen's kiss  over 1200 mts,running

Bangalore selections and analysis 27/07

Race no 1: A race for class V horses over 1200 mts On the outset this race looks extremely tricky thanks to the the form? of the runners in this race.  Mountain Train which runs after a long lay-off after its winter adventure looks like a contender here purely based on its track form,but as always its a lottery to assume if the horse after a lay off can put up a winning gallop just after returning or will it need this run? But it is prepared extensively ignore at will That brings me back to two horses which have relatively good form in Will still and Star of desire ,both have reasonable form and the latter a demotee with a switch in jockey has come down a lot in ratings  My choice:#1 Star of Desire for Win  Race no 2:A race for Class V horses over 1200 mts Upper division of the previous race,the field is comprised of many youngsters,here too form is not seen in plenty  Rubi Rey ,which ran in the upper class finished fourth to My Faviurite voice, now drops down in grade with a chance in
