Mysore Derby Day Analysis and Selections 19/10/14

RACE 1:A class IV race over 1400 mts 

The Derby day starts with a race that's obviously meant for lower class horses. This race is quite open though 

The First Bullet seems like the one top contender in this race,last run showed some spark and now with this saddle support is expected to do well 

The main challenge should come from the duo of Thunder and Inspirator,the latter has been running some suggestive races and now with these pretty weights can hope to have a bold show. 

The Mumbai import in Winged King is what I term an adventurous venture,on relative class factor it does have an edge,the jockey declared is a bit of a concern,is tracking well too. Don't be surprised if it runs a mighty good race and is my personal e/w fancy for this race 

My Choice:#1 Winged King Win/Place 

Race 2:A class V race over 1200 mts 

Amanda no doubt us the most consistent horse in this lot,add to that a switch in jockey to the now red-hot apprentice,has the best credentials to win this race 

Reva and Danube have shown some spark and can be termed as the relative upsetters in this race 

Fortaleza last run was in a classic,was prominent till they went past the two furlong marker,now the drop in distance means it has a decent chance over here,the stable is known for trying their horse in steel shoes,this is my personal fancy 

My Choice:#3 Fortaleza Win 

Race 3:A class IV race over 1400 mts 

Barring an upset which is a real possibility in this race down the like of Guapo,this horse on most account is between the top three horses 

Forest Tern-Last win was drifting out,came with a rerun,should run this distance well. A class IV winner 

Hector-Last win was quite easy to the eye,class IV winner and subsequently working well 

Speed Hawk-A winner of a maiden race,placed here on that note,change in shoes is a bit disturbing. Gets the same jockey again and should run a good race and is my personal fancy in this race 

My Choice:#2 Speed Hawk win 

Race 4:A class III race over 1200 mts 

The Muse is the one that comes right into top contention in this race,thanks to its recent form and saddle support now 

Bourbon Street ran a blinder on its course and seasonal debut,has come down to class III after a solitary show in class II,keep an eye can do well here 

Hackett has what I term as the 'deceptive' chance in this race,low weights,has won over this distance in the same class in the same course and also has a red hot apprentice on duty,my personal fancy 

My Choice:#12 Hackett Win 

Race 5:A class IV race over 1400 mts 

No wonder the first leg of the the jackpot pool on the big day seems tricky 

Ice pick Willie and Arun have both won their last starts,the first named can hope to repeat in this set 

Cash Is King is prepared well has had many runs this season and is now running with superior saddle Support,cannot be ignored 

Sunday Cruz has been running some good races,faces a relatively weak bunch and may score here in this set,the jockey has scored 40 winners,has that handicap factor against it though. My personal fancy 

My Choice:#9 Sunday Cruz Win 

Race 6:A class I race over 1400 mts 

This is a quity race,has too many contenders. I am not going to go into the merits and demerits of them due to time constraint 

My Choice:#5 Winston 

Race 7:The Mysore Derby (Gr.1)



Irony is a part of racing,this field comprising of only 6 horses,now has on offer the highest stakes money to the winner of the four Monsoon Derbies..... This Derby is complex,so complex that the chances of the obvious favourite is something to ponder about in my opinion. 

Again,three things will decide the outcome of this race,Distance Suitabilty,class and fitness 

I think Obilenna Princess is an outsider in this race,she has run some good races in her career and here she is merely making up the numbers 

Of the Five horses,here is my opinion 

BOLD MAJESTY-Has that experience,and failed to live upto expectations in its last start,has finished third over this same trip at Malakpet. Is a classic winner plus add an advantage with a change in saddle support to the ever imposing A.Sandesh 

SPREADEAGLE-Last win was in exemplary fashion ? 

True that..... But the jockey has been cautioned for Whip Offence 
Has not been in the tracks since then,the only horse in this field who is a Gr.1 winner over this same trip 
(Borsalino came into this race with two Gr.1's over the same trip yet found Windstream too good. Thus SpreadEagle is not a mere certainty in my opinion ) 

THE ARTIST-bred in purple,short of experience . This horse is working well in the trial tracks and has won two races in good fashion. Pedigree suggestive of staying the trip,the only factor is class which will be known only after the race in this horse's case,obviously has a fair chance to succeed 

ZUCCHERO-Second to War Command,in the Mysore 2000 gns,retaining same jockey. Has been prepared very well by the fresh trainer. One factor bothers me,can it clad it's maiden in a derby? Racing is a funny lot at times.... 

FATAL ATTRACTION-drifted out in the 1000 guineas last time,The sure line has stamina influences,is the obvious outsider in this race,a classic placed horse with a top jockey who may like an extended trip..... 


Small field races depend upon one more factor,Pace. Where will the pace come from in this race? I don't know to be quite honest. Jockey capability thus counts a lot 

BOLD MAJESTY thus stand a good chance to avenge his earlier failure,keep an eye on Spreadeagles weight charts. 

The Artist,has the pedigree,good from,can stay the trip,good saddle support and only factor is an experience in an elite company like this. Both his wins were easy,I feel that he has a decent enough chance to place here and is my personal fancy for this race,may upset too 

MY CHOICE:#3 The Artist Win/Place


RACE 8:A class II race over a mile 

Amistead,Noble Reward,Strike The Stars,Aumento and Shaka Zulu can be termed as possible contenders here with Absolute Brave 

Cool Approach is a mile specialist can be an upsetter

My personal fancy here is Strike The Stars,is a winner in a million over mile,lost its form,last run suggestive and now may put up a bold show 

MY CHOICE:#10 Strike The Stars win 

RACE 9:A CLASS III RACE OVER 1400 mts 

Another fantastic face to close the day off 

True that there are horses like Igah Igah Iagh,Trust Me Boy and Startstruck who can make top bids in this race 

However SnowAngel who won her last start pretty well is my personal fancy,placed well on promotion this Mumbai import is now being partnered by John and cannot be ignored 

My Choice:#4 Snow Angel

Bangalore selections and analysis 27/07

Race no 1: A race for class V horses over 1200 mts On the outset this race looks extremely tricky thanks to the the form? of the runners in this race.  Mountain Train which runs after a long lay-off after its winter adventure looks like a contender here purely based on its track form,but as always its a lottery to assume if the horse after a lay off can put up a winning gallop just after returning or will it need this run? But it is prepared extensively ignore at will That brings me back to two horses which have relatively good form in Will still and Star of desire ,both have reasonable form and the latter a demotee with a switch in jockey has come down a lot in ratings  My choice:#1 Star of Desire for Win  Race no 2:A race for Class V horses over 1200 mts Upper division of the previous race,the field is comprised of many youngsters,here too form is not seen in plenty  Rubi Rey ,which ran in the upper class finished fourth to My Faviurite voice, now drops down in gra...

Mumbai Thursday races 12/12/13 a Analysis and Selections

Hello Friends,                       The mid-week racing card at Mumbai consists a compact card of 7 races,here is my analysis and selections for the day  Race no 1:Class V race over 1200 mts  Ancient Odyssey  which won its last start in the same class over the same distance now gets a positive switch in rider,as most of the field is out of relative form,this horse has a fair chance to repeat here Polar Zone  which has earlier shown some spark is now getting a guidance from a top jockey,has run decently in its previous runs too,no tracks are seen and that is my only worry  But one horse which caught the eye during its last run is  SHOWERS OF HEAVEN, it had a forward run in a large field with Dharmendar on top and was calling the shots until they crossed the 200 mts marker over a 7f trip,now with a benifit of that run and a switch to jockey,shapes as a decent chance bet for the day  MY CHOICE:#...
