Pune Analysis and Selections Pre-Derby day (11/10/14)

Race 1:A 3 yo Maiden race over 1200 mts

Lets be honest, when a horse comes from a top yard, prepared well and gets a top jockey, bound for second life time start improvement and facing a relatively modest field, what could one do? The odds are too low for comfort.

In my opinion it could account for most of the field, except there is one unknown entity in the race called Hoshiyaar, its a got-abroad which is putting some good work and from a sire who is known to throw first-start winners, thus people who are willing to risk it,this is the horse.....

Otherwise Quick Angel,Loveable Locks and Khaleefa in the same order is my preference to land the place spoils

My Choice:#8 SeƱorita Evita Win

Race 2:A class II race over 2400 mts

Four horses, long distance race...... Who hits the front, the pace of the race and more importantly Jockey merit (not necessarily the senior jockey, but the one who adapts to the situation) are key to win this race

Mufasa has the extreme pull in weights and is the one for that can spring a surprise

Negotiator though cannot be ruled out,has to find a lot of form

Of the favoured duo,Fire Engine (who is a sparingly raced horse, won its last start in a impressive manner is seen here on promotion) against Highlander (whose last run against Tiger Tops is suggestive of a good show) my personal fancy is the later,my only reasoning is that the latter who had run behind a classic winner in the same class can see off the lower class winner who got the better of the not so-good Top Commander

My Choice:#3 Highlander Win

Race 3:A Class I race over 1400 mts

This race is rather interesting as all the horses seem to have one thing or the other going for it coming into this race.

Falcon is the horse that won its first start this season by a whisker against the too-good Dancing Prances, ran two listless races after that and finds itself placed here, needless to say it is the one to be beaten in this race

Of the four remaining horses,Moon Shadow gets the first preference in my view as it has the pull in weights and having a top jockey to steer it in this race

Dynamo although coming from a lay-off cannot be discounted as the stable is in red-hot form, the last spurt is quite suggestive too

But for me,this race is about two horses Rio who after winning 5 furlong races have been tested by its trainer over slightly longer trips and today may be the day of reckoning,it has an amazing turn of foot and one can hope for it to run a bold race

It has to however catch the front-running Myla Rose whose impost is lessend by the allowance claiming jockey onboard, its last run was suggestive and now in this field stands a fair chance,as odds would be lucrative worth taking a chance

My Choice:#1 Myla Rose Win/Place

Race 4:A class IV race over 1000 mts

This Div-II of the class IV race is such an open race, that a possibility of an upset cannot be entirely ruled out

Of the youngsters Valentino which won by a 3.75 length margin, which is good in a sprint has to give weight all around and win here,is the one to be beaten in this race

PepperCorn,Sunshine Heart,Dark William,Ocean Star and Savannah Sound are the horses whom I feel will have a say in this race

Sunshine Heart ran a close fourth in its last start and is the immediate danger in this race, with switch in jockey can hope for the best

Savannah Sound is making a late debut, yet has been showing out in tracks,is drawn wide and for a first timer, should take a good jump to be in the reckoning, don't ignore this horse

Dark William last run was suggestive, now with a change in jockey has a fair chance in this race, known to hit the front and the claiming allowance should prove to be decisive in this race,my personal fancy

My Choice:#5 Dark William Win

Race 5:A class III race over a mile

Congressional is running in a class III race with a change in saddle support against an experienced field, not that it cannot win,it has to improve upon its last start to win here

Halle and Samba Warrior are coming out of the same race, the former is having an edge in this race, the latter is no pushover too

Of Sansani who now seems to be heavily handicapped and Supreme Minstrel whose last run was too good to the eye,the latter appeals here but then it faces a rather competitive bunch here

All said and done,Archimedes won its last start well and is placed very well on promotion, comes from top yard and even with a change in saddle support should run a good race in my opinion, worth taking an e/w chance

My Choice:#6 Archimedes win/place

Race 6:For maiden horses 3 yo only over 1200 mts

Millenium Falcon seems to be prepared well for a coup on debut,Egyptiana was a failed favourite last time and cannot be ignored here

However Apache who is known to drift under pressure has been given a mock race and also has a change of equipment, can win here and is my personal fancy

My Choice:#1 Apache Win

Race 7:A class V race over 1200 mts

NOTE:NO WHIP RACE

Bella Figura gets a claimer and in all possibility is the horse to beat in this race

Mighty Splendour, last run decent and prepared the best in the tracks,is the one they all have to beat

Golden Wave gets a top jockey on board, comes into this race with good formlines, positive switch in jockey, all good for thought

Zarar has been running some in and out races, track spurts are suggestive and is the one that can spring a minor surprise here

Annabeth has been racing in various distances, low handicap here, capable of doing well provided it takes a good jump, known to hit the front

Its quite an open race, the possibility of New Star of the likes of it prevailing is high too

Annabeth is my personal fancy as it has been running some good races, but has that one factor called a good jump that can enable it to fare well

My Choice:#9 Annabeth win/Place

Race 8:A class IV race over 1000 mts

Hudson Hawk,Artiste are two horses that can hope to do well here, the former has a raw apprentice but has the handicap advantage to excel in this race

Then there is As Good as It Gets with Sandesh in the saddle, can hope to break its maiden here, known to hit the front and at these weights is a danger to all

Polar Zone is a winner in the same class in its age category,a place is more reasonable

Satine (Ex-Windsor Queen) has been running some fair races,as the race wears an open look thanks to the wider draw of many fancied runners, has an upsetting chance.

My Choice however is Hudson Hawk, has the age and a slight advantage in handicaps in its favour

My Choice:#2 Hudson Hawk Win
