The Kingfisher Derby day 13/07/14

Hello Friends, 

                    Here comes the biggest day of the BSM,The Derby Day,card is filled with 9 races and here is my analysis and personal fancies for the day 

Race no 1:A race for 3 yo maidens over 1400 mts 

There is no big formline to go by among the acceptors,Equal Terms by virtue of its running style last time out,change in pilot to stables first jockey and trackwork is the top contender for this race 

There are two debutants in SPONTANEOUS EDDIE and ZUCHERRO,the latter especially by virtue of its trackwork should run a big race 

The Soparno has the best jockey-trainer combination,horses last run was not very encouraging and is not visible on tracks as per indiarace.com's racecard,thus I would find it a surprise if it manages to score here 

ZUCHERRO and Equal Terms should fight it out for the top honours,I feel that the former with Y.S.Srinath should run a big race here 

My Choice:#5 Zucchero for Win 

RACE NO 2:A class II race over 1800 mts 

Let me be frank here,Potomac who won very well last time out although retained in the same class might find the weight she is carrying and an apprentice over a relatively longer distance against it 

Winged Foot is a classic winner,should be in the reckoning here but for her recent slump in form,bears watching 

Aashikara won her last start very well and the fact that the horse it beat in Alfons De Borja winning again makes him a contender for this race,with Mumbai's champion jockey in the saddle and some wonderful trackworks,he is the one to be beaten here 

Pursuit of fame is running after a long layoff,infact her last run in the Hyderabad oaks was nothing to write about,but she is a clear course and distance winner in her last start during the Bangalore winter. Although seen in the tracks she is running after a layoff and that is concerning 

That leaves us with three horses that can run Aashikara down in Mannat,Scarlet O hara and Ace Badraan 

Scarlet O Hara has run third to the wonder filly rightly named Amazing Grace in her last start,now gets a switch in saddle support to Trevor Patel,can she win here ? Yes but a couple of things should go in her favour 

MANNAT has the habbit of running well in low weights but again to win in this set she should run really well,won't surprise me much if she wins 

Then there is Ace Badraan whose only win was in a class IV race,must admit that has run with exalted company and is tracking very well,won't be a surprise if he wins but again there are some questions that need to be answered 

Thus Aashikara who is having good form,placed well on demotion and has a good jockey to guide him along with some pleasing trackwork is my personal fancy for this race 

My Choice:#6 Aashikara for Win 

RACE NO 3:A race for 3 yo maidens over 1400 mts 

Feliciana now gets a jockey change to Suraj Narredu and is coming into this race after the invitation weekend,prepared well and has a good chance to win here 

Azzuro who played up before his last start ran very well to get beaten at the post,going over the same distance again and tracking extremely well. My only concern is what if the horse plays up yet again and spoils its chances 

Then there is Vijay Vaibhav who is also bound for a second lifetime start improvement in the fray,the progeny of Teofilo is also working well on the tracks and based on his running style last time out,should do well 

The dark un here is Republican Star will the change in shoe do the trick? Last run is ignorable and now stands a good chance of upsetting the applecart of others 

My Choice:#5 Vijay Vaibhav for win 

RACE NO 4:A class III race over 1200 mts 

Emperor Cruise who is coming into this race after winning the Sprinters million will be the red hot favourite for this race,carrying a weight of 60 kgs this filly should improve more to win this race especially when horses like Topspot and Pentagram are receiving considerable weight from her. 

Pentagram especially can turn the tables around this time out with the weight advantage,keep an eye 

Blitzschnelle is another horse which won very well over a 1100 trip,now sees itself in class III and runs over an extended distance of another 100 mts,should place has a fair chance to win here 

However friends my fancy in this race is Pure Allure,who made her seasonal debut in the fillies championship stakes,a fluent winner over 1100 at winter,this well bred filly sitting pretty at low weights and a top jockey to guide its chances with a draw of 1 has a bright chance to bounce back to form and is my personal fancy of this race 

My Choice:#9 Pure Allure for win 

RACE NO 5:A class IV race over a mile (4yo+) 

STRIKE THE STARS has run with very good company in its classic year,is a danger to all here despite the lack of form 

ONE OF A KIND,CHEDDAR FACE,STIMULATE all seem to be main contenders for this race,Stimulate has been prepared very well to do well here and with an apprentice in form,should do well here.

Winning Story is returning after a win in the Lower class,will find it difficult to win here again and then there is Appy's Pride and Zermatt who have shown sparkles of form in their past 

However the race has a horse called Mickey Mouse,considered to be a classic contender once but did not participate due to setbacks,now running with a positive shoe change in this class with a benifit of a run this season is my personal fancy for this race 

My Choice:#4 Mickey Mouse for win 

RACE NO 6:A race for maiden 3 yo over 1200 mts 

Soul Magic based on her last run should be the rage here,was travelling well until the last 50 mts and lost at the post,is a top contender for this race 

Then there is Flames of Passion who is working well on the tracks with a change in jockey,should be in the firing lane 

Equine Love is bred similar to Equine Lover,the classic winning filly from the same yard,cannot be ignored despite what seems to be an underpreparation,if it had class can easily tackle this set.

Arrete has run behind Be Safe at Mumbai and that alone is enough to say that he has the best form lines coming into this race,seems to be tracking well too and should do well here 

My Choice:#8 Equine Love for win 

RACE NO 7:KINGFISHER BANGALORE DERBY (Gr.1) Over 2000 mts 

Nothing much to write about the fav Be Safe here as his form is well advertised. Barring mishap or a very improved performance form someone else should romp home here. Is it worth backing him at these odds ? Its a personal thing if you ask me I would say No 

So it is moral to look elsewhere for a place bet or watch this race 

Remembrance of You has been in my radar for long,is a winner of a maiden but can get the trip and out of a very good stallion,without going into the details of other horses I would like to say this is my personal fancy for place 

Alexandra Mills with its running style is the only threat to Be Safe on known form 

Tiger Tops should improve a lot to find a place in the top 3,from the top yard cannot be ignored 

However,Be Safe stands tall and place payouts will be lucrative in this scenario,my money will ride on Remembrance of You 

My Choice:#11 Remembrabce of You place 

RACE NO 8:A class IV race over 1400 mts 

AZURITE and AUTHENTIC are two horses that are winners and are running here in class IV,they both have an edge over others,Authentic especially after his win in his last start appeals more 

However they have to keep an eye on Jingle bells and Alerio,the latter especially has a change in jockey and positive equipment,good bloodlines and should have a decisive say in this race 

My Choice:#7 Alerio for win 

RACE NO 9:A race for 3 yo maidens over 1200 mts 

Galway Girl,Super Strong,Millrose and Sunday Slotlight seem like the possible contenders in this race 

On preparation alone Millrose stands out from the rest,again tracks are not visible for Sunday Spotlight,has a positive change in pilot and equipment thus cannot be ignored here 

Millrose is my personal fancy for this race 

My Choice:#7 Millrose for win 

DAY's BEST:VIJAY VAIBHAV 

DOUBLE:AASHIKARA-PURE ALLURE
