Bangalore Winter Derby day 26/1/17
Hello Friends,
Had some free time today amidst a busy January,so dived into the card and found it to be a good one, here is my view for the derby day.....
Race no 1-horse no 6 call me maybe,is my first pick for the first race of the day, amongst the maidens it has finished close up to the winner in recent times and today being a big day hoping for owners colors to be prominent. Ravishing snow showed some spark last start and should be in the contention for the prime spot today.
Race no 2-horse no 5 Lawrence of Arabia, follow horse for me as I fancied it on debut as well but it ran a damp race then hope the extra 200m works in its favor, its a biased selection as there is a lone first start winner in Apache Sunrise in the fray too, don't be surprised it it puts its best foot forward and Kambabku was unfortunate to counter what was seemingly a very good horse is Tutumkhamun last start and should be in the hunt too
Race 3-no 6 I smile being a Demotee with an apprentice appeals more so with a change in shoes from S to A,an eachway chance.... a tricky race otherwise
Race 4-no 4 Auriga is my first pick here over Bold command as the former has beaten the latter over a mile at Mysore, true that the terms here are different but then Auriga was being ridden by Cedric in the last two runs and I'm hopeful that with Suraj on the reins it will be a different horse today,Mickey Mouse is the one to catch in the straight given it's running style and is the wildcard in the pack.
Race 5-no 3 Jersey Wonder is one of those rare horse I would pick despite being a Same class winner... the reason is the manner of victory last start where it settled down beautifully and won with a short but speedy burst in the straight, another such effort would prove to be fruitful, the danger however lies in the two demotees in Quarker Ridge and Torolocco both of them ran in the Dr MAM Ramaswamy Memorial at Madras on Pongal day,the latter that is Torolocco although being the elder statesman here is coming down a lot in class and should be respected.
Race 6-no 10 Dagobert is the Highest rated maiden in the field and coupled with the fact that an apprentice is on it makes it to run at the minimal weights possible and as such I give it a good chance to clear maiden ranks,on pure class handicapping fireglow should not be overlooked as it a first start winner and also had a run in the Guineas earlier this season,Cape Cross is the one for the flukers to fancy... One of the most interesting race for the day.
Race 7-no 2 Batallion is my first pick purely based on Major's article as he has hinted that the horse may stay given its dosage index,in my view it is the best animal with known form in class so when class and staying prowess mix it will be a horse to watch out for, there is a lot of buzz on Captain Morgan and the handicappers rating substantiates it too and it should be in the reckoning too,the third horse which is being overlooked by many is Bold March who may thrive in this field as it lacks depth but anyhow Batallion is the one to look out.
Race 8-no 3 Jack of Hearts looks a decent if not a good chance in the penultimate race of the day,the second behind Ark Royal should be a boost to its chances,The Goldie brown horse in Sterling Role should be respected as it has scope to improve,Eredemir has been in the Vet books way too often and if fit should give a good account of itself.
Race 9-No 1 Topaz being the Demotee in div-2 race catches the eye first and naturally is my first pick of the day, keep a close eye on Zubaida who after a forward run after a break is showing glimpses of improvement on the trial tracks.
DAYS BEST:9-1 TOPAZ
Good Bets:2-5 Lawrence of Arabia,5-3 Jersey Wonder,7-2 Batallion
Have a nice day,gamble responsibly.
